Mobile phone signals are carried in radio waves. As the person talks, the phone converts the persons voice into an electrical signal, which is then transmitted as radio waves and converted back into sound by a radio wave receiver in the persons friend’s phone. A basic mobile phone is therefore nothing more than a combined radio transmitter and a radio receiver. Just like a walkie-talkie or CB radio.
